On October 26, 2017, the Ministerial Conference of the Central European Initiative on Science and Technology “Biotechnology for Healthy and Active Life in the CEI Region” was held in Minsk, Belarus.
It was organized by the State Committee on Science and Technologies and the Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support of S&T, EaP PLUS partner with the support from the National Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus within the framework of Belarus Presidency in CEI.
The Conference has brought together participants from 12 CEI countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Ukraine and Belarus), as well as the CEI Secretariat and the European Commission, altogether over 80 participants. They have exchanged information and opinions on the current state and prospects for R&D activities and international cooperation in the field of biotechnology.
One of the sessions was devoted to presenting and discussing possible mechanisms of cooperation in the coming years (2018-2020) with a focus on biotechnologies and support of academy-industry partnerships. The list includes Horizon 2020, COST, etc., but is not limited to them. The point is how to raise the effectiveness of participation and whether and how CEI potential and instruments can be used for that? In the session, Olga Meerovskaya, BelISA, presented EaP PLUS project and its instruments for promoting Horizon 2020. Specific attention was given to SPIRE calls 2018-2020 and linking Belarusian and other EaP players with CEI members for joint participation in them.
