National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) was founded in 1943 and is the highest state scientific self-governing organization in the country which unites NAS Members and scientific staff of affiliated scientific and research institutions to carry out basic and applied research in different scientific fields and coordinate research throughout the country.

NAS RA is the official scientific consultant to the government and other highest governing bodies of Armenia. As the main state scientific organization NAS RA unifies the scientific and research institutes, subsidiary services and governing body - the Presidium of the Academy, with around 35 research institutes, centers and other support facilities.

The Academy has a staff of over 3700 researchers, including 87 academicians, 18 corresponding members, 323 doctors of sciences, 1006 candidates of sciences.The Presidium of NAS RA has five scientific divisions on particular areas of science, as follows: Division of Mathematical and Technical Sciences, Division of Physics and Astrophysics, Division of Natural Sciences, Division of Chemistry and Earth Sciences, Division of Armenology and Social Sciences. NAS RA maintains wide international cooperation within the framework of cooperation agreements with academies and research organizations of around 10 countries. The NAS RA is a member of several international scientific unions including International Council for Science, InterAcademy Panel on International Cooperation and Council of the Academy of Sciences of BSEC member States. During last years NAS RA was involved in several international S&T cooperation promotion projects, including H2020 BSH, FP7 IncoNet Eastern Partnership, FP7 BS-ERA.NET, FP7 IncoNet CASC, EU JOP project on Industrial Evolution in the Black Sea Area – Examples from Greece, Romania and Armenia, etc.

Expertise:


As a policy developer and international STI cooperation specialist, NAS RA brings in the project already established links with relevant regional policy dialogue fora and national authorities in the target geographic region. In addition to this, NAS RA disposes valuable expertise in high-standard analytical work, and in drafting and promoting the adoption of policy documents.

In detail, NAS RA, based on its capacity,  is going to contribute in the following tasks:

1) In WP1, in supporting the EU-EaP STI Policy Dialogue, in maximizing the impact of the Association to H2020 and in the shaping the future of the EU – EaP STI cooperation

2) In WP2, in the organization of H2020 Info Days and of a local NCPs training, in the cooperation with Scientific Diaspora and the enhancing of contacts: grants for networking

3) In WP4, in increasing the coordination and synergies between policies and programmes of EU/MS and EaP

4) In WP5, in the content management and the communities of practice
