Association's Impact

Task 1.2: Maximizing the impact of the Association to H2020

This Task will be dedicated to the newly Associated to H2020 countries. Topics such as long-term benefits and challenges from the Association; means and best practices for a successful Association (participation in the H2020 processes/Programme Committees; effectiveness of the NCP system; transitional measures; optimal use of the Scientific Diasporas; etc.); optimizing framework conditions (open access; scientific visas; IPR; national research infrastructure roadmaps; etc.), will be addressed through desk research and a dedicated Conference involving the newly and previously Associated countries such as Turkey, Israel or Norway. (Activity 1.2a).

In addition, a Training for Programme Committee members from the newly Associated countries will be organized in order to familiarize them with the H2020 procedures and the necessary internal preparatory work at national level. (Activity 1.2b).

Activity 1.2.a: Conference on ‘Sharing experiences from the Association to H2020’

Four out of the six EaP countries are currently either Associated (MD, UA) or in the process of negotiation of their Association to H2020 (AM, GE). In that respect, it is important to exchange views and share experiences on the way the national authorities are organizing themselves in order to take full advantage of the Association, i.e. maximizing the benefits from the committed national funds.

Among the topics to be addressed the following can be anticipated:

  • Long-term benefits and challenges from the Association;
  • Means and best practices for a successful Association (participation in the H2020 processes/Programme Committees; effectiveness of the NCP system; transitional measures; optimal use of the Scientific Diasporas; etc.).
  • Optimizing framework conditions (open access; scientific visas; IPR; national research infrastructure roadmaps; etc.).

A collection of preliminary information on the above topics will first take place and then a Conference will be organized involving high-level representatives from the four aforementioned countries and from countries that addressed a similar challenge earlier, such as Norway, Israel, Serbia, Turkey, etc. Observers from the other two EaP countries may also attend.

Venue: Kiev/UA; In 2016; 8persons x 3 Associated EaP countries (AM, GE, MD); 2 persons from other EaP countries; 6 persons from non-EaP Associated countries; sub-total: 34 (Plus EC, UA participants and project partners). Approx. 50-60 in total.

Activity 1.2.b: Training for Programme Committee members from Associated EaP countries

A challenge for the newly Associated countries will be to actively participate in the H2020 procedures among which the functioning of the Programme Committees is of key importance. In that respect, a two days training Workshop will be organized involving nominated Programme Committee members of the Associated EaP countries and experienced trainers in EU processes plus peers from EU MS.

The training will be dedicated to the way of functioning of H2020 and of the Programme Committees in particular, as well as on the way to plan and implement the internal preparatory work at the level of their country (internal consultation process).

Venue: Kiev (back-to-back with the Conference T1.2.a) in 2016; Approx. 10 PC Members x 3 countries + 10 trainers = 40 plus locals (UA).
